When I was living there they had a demand that they need that the tenant should not eat non-veg. I think the system in Mumbai is slightly more authentic, wherein there is formal process that any tenant has to go through, this involves producing a police certificate and one reference certificate which shows that you are able to pay the rent, normally your employment letter would be enough.

I completely agree that this idea of asking for character certificate is simply stupid. How can you ensure that a married couple are not going to grow, cannabis in your garden? Or how will the landlord know, his premises are not being used by extremists, using a man and woman as a fake couple. Analysed logically, lets look at what is land lord trying to achieve, he/she is simply trying to ensure that their property is safe and they are not going is harbour someone who will cause them embarrassment or in-convenience by raising ruckus in the middle of the night. So simply ask them to agree that the landlord will have right to terminate their contract in the event of such incidents. Any ways in a long and convolutes manner all I am saying is that, the whole concept of asking for Character Certificate is silly!!Ayanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08025651748942703510noreply@blogger.com
